League of Legends: Misfits Replace KaKAO With Maxlore
by Matt Best
Shortly after parting ways with ROCCAT, jungler Nubar "Maxlore" Safarian has found a new team within the EU LCS. Misfits announced that they're letting go of Lee "KaKAO" Byung-kwon and are effectively replacing him with Maxlore.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the departure of Lee “KaKAO” Byung-kwon.
Despite a great start to the 2017 Spring Split and a top 4 finish in playoffs, we failed to meet the expectations set by ourselves and our fans. A top 4 finish is admirable for a team coming from Challenger, but for us, it is not enough.
Since the organization was formed in Challenger, it has been our goal to make it to the League of Legends World Championship in 2017. We believed we were truly on our way to accomplishing this goal midway through the Spring Split. So, after a string of poor performances that culminated into a loss streak and an underwhelming showing in playoffs, we decided a change was required in order to fulfill our short-term and long-term goals.
Misfits cited a major lack of communication as the main reason behind swapping junglers. "Every role is required to contribute to a team’s communication system in order to succeed. We believe that poor communication was a big culprit in our losses. Despite his fantastic individual performance, KaKAO had trouble contributing to communication. While the staff and him tried their hardest to improve his English and in-game communication, it was not improving fast enough and we foresaw this problem continuing in the Summer Split. This meant we had to part ways with KaKAO. This decision was not made lightly, but we believe it is a change that will help us fulfill our goals and meet the fans’ expectations."
That being said, they pick up Maxlore and both parties couldn't be happier. "I’m really happy with the opportunity Misfits has given me," said Maxlore. "I’m really excited to play with my new teammates and I’m confident that we can make it far. I’ll do my best to achieve both my goals and the goals of Misfits."
Misfits General Manager, InnerFlame also spoke about Maxlore and said, "Maxlore is a player who I have worked with in the past. Last time we worked together he had only just become a challenger series player. He’s come a long way since then and we cannot wait to oversee the next chapter of his journey. Maxlore performed highly in the latter half of last split with strong performances against the strongest teams in EULCS. Nubar shares a desire with Misfits to make the push to qualify for worlds and we are looking forward to accommodating that."
