Watch Esports On Your Flight With Emirates and ESL

Emirates WWG ESL

When you board your flight, often times you think about what you're going to do for the duration you're up in the air for. Will you nap? Will you spend an outrageous amount of money on food and beverages? Will you pester the person next to you all flight long and be a jabberjaw (don't be that person)? Or, will you scroll through the in-flight entertainment options and watch something?

That last option is what most folks do onboard a plane and Emirates want to give you more options on their flights after signing a deal with ESL to bring esports as an in-flight entertainment option.

The press release is as follows:

ESL, the world’s largest esports company and part of the international digital entertainment group MTG, today announced its first major in-flight entertainment deal. From March 2017 to June 2018, Emirates flights will have on-demand ESL esports content available to all passengers.

ESL will deliver highlights, clips and stories from major global events; such as ESL One New York 2016, which drew over 8,500 fans to the Barclays Center in New York last October or the world’s biggest esports event in history, the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Katowice 2017. Future stadium tournaments produced by ESL will also be added to the Emirates entertainment portfolio, including the ESL One Cologne 2017.

"At ESL, we are always looking to increase the visibility of esports and are happy to work with Emirates, one of the world’s biggest airline fleets, on our first in-flight entertainment deal, "said Torsten Haux, VP Global Media Rights, ESL. "As a truly global company with events all around the world, I’m sure that players and fans will enjoy ESL’s esports highlights as they travel on Emirates airlines."

Bringing esports onto flights as an entertainment option is a big move. People are often so bored on flights that they'll watch anything interesting on their screen. We've all been there before to the point where we'll watch whatever pops up first. You can bet that Emirates will be promoting their latest deal with ESL and it'll be one of the first things you see as soon as you buckle up and sit through the ever so entertaining safety demonstration.
