In case you haven't played League of Legends within the last 24 hours, you'll have missed out on the fact that the old legacy client is no more. As of April 24, the client was laid to rest, never to return again.
While the new League of Legends client hasn't been received as well as Riot had hoped, they recently released a video outlining 12 tips and tricks you can do with the new client in hopes of persuading you over.
Over at WWG, we've broken down each one with a little more information as to why you should be using the feature or how to use it!
1. Login While Patching
Previously, if you had an update to do, you would have to sit there and wait at the patching screen without being able to get into the client. With the updated client, you're now able to login and chat with friends or just take a peek at your match history as an example of a few things you can do!
2. News & Patch Notes In Client
Previously if you somehow missed out on WWG's breakdown of the latest patch notes, you can still take a peek at them within the League client. At the top left-hand side of your homepage, you'll see three icons that are named overview, news, and patch notes. If you're looking for those patch notes, you can always hit up WWG, but if you can't open a browser for some reason - this is handy too.
3. Hide Mobile and Offline Friends
Alright Mr./Mrs. Popular. We get it, you have a lot of friends. But what if you don't want to see all of those friends at once and just want to see who's online? Now in the chat bar to the right, you can group all of your mobile and offline friends into one category and have them vanish away from the real players you want to be playing with (the online ones).
4. Put Chat Anywhere
Speaking of chat, have you ever wanted to move chat from the right side of your client? With the new client, you can! You can pop the chat out and drag it all over your client. Want it in the top left? Do it. Want it in the middle, blocking your view of everything? I mean, you can do that, too.
5. Low-Spec Mode
Do you find that the new League of Legends client sometimes lags on your computer? Maybe you're playing on a computer that isn't necessarily the strongest thing. Never fear, low-spec is here! When you enable low spec, you'll lose some of the visual integrity of some images but the client will work a heck of a lot better.
6. Change In-Game Settings From Client
Maybe you just got a new computer that can handle settings not named "low". You want to try these out but you also don't want to lose precious time in game. You'll miss that invade to start the game if you're tinkering around with your graphics settings. In the new client, you're able to change your settings before you even load onto the Rift.
7. Practice Tool
This is one of the biggest selling points for the new client. Want to try out a new champion before you embarrass yourself on the Rift (cough Rakan/Xayah cough)? Give the practice tool a try. You can customize the settings to your liking, pick a champ, and load up onto the Rift!
8. Drag-N-Drop Invites
Let's face it. We're kinda lazy sometimes. Those two clicks to invite someone or the single click it takes if you just press "+" under suggested is too hard at times. Sometimes you just want to drag your friend over from your friends list and throw them in queue with you. We don't know, maybe you're angry at them and the sensation of "dragging" them into queue makes you feel better. You do you, summoner.
9. Reorder Rune Pages
It's a super simple thing to do but maybe you like having everything in order. The top lane rune pages don't belong at the bottom of your list. Or maybe you want your rune pages in alphabetical order. Whatever tickles your fancy, you can now rearrange your rune pages to your liking.
10. Shift+Click to Assign Runes Faster
Speaking of those rune pages, sometimes it was a little tedious to click on all your runes to get them slotted (I know, this sounds super lazy). With the new client, you can shift-click a rune in order to get all of them into your rune page. Have three quintessences you want? Shift+click your way to victory!
11. More In-Client Post-Game Stats
Want more than one way to make sure everyone knows that you're better than them? With the new client, there's now more stats that you can use to compare yourself to others. There's also been rumblings that more vision stats will be included, so fret not supports (and other good players that realize you need vision to win!)
