Welcome, friends, to Patch 7.9, or the one where we make tanks great again. Or something to that effect. This patch marks the midpoint of the
Regardless, patch 7.9 has it's own winners and losers, just like any other patch. Who are they? Well, let's take a look, shall we? Welcome to the Winners and Losers of patch 7.9!
I feel like I could just run a laugh track here instead of a detailed analysis, but oh boy is this one a doozy. So, in case you didn't know Riot decided that Zac's new niche shouldn't just be that he has the longest range engage in the game, they also wanted to ensure that he had tons of CC to use once he threw himself into the enemy team. To say they succeeded in that would be a laughable understatement, as Zac now has some form of crowd control on 3 of his four abilities, and some of them are just insane. His new Q slams people together and does a passable impression of a Nautilus hook, and his new ultimate basically tells immobile carries that they need to flash or die since he can now scoop up enemies and throw them into his team.
If all that sounds insane, that's
Not all of the vanguard reworks were for the better, though, as while Zac and Sejuani both got buffed back into relevancy, Maokai instead managed to get weaker. While his new ultimate is certainly flashy, the reality is that it's not particularly good. Maokai already has some excellent
Furthermore, Riot also seems to be pushing Maokai into the jungle, as without Vengeful Maelstrom he's not able to go toe to toe with any top
Do you enjoy getting huge percentages of your HP shaved off everytime you go to CS or trade in the top lane? Do you enjoy getting ganked when the enemy
The Sejuani rework has definitely buffed Sejuani into viability, but not in the way that Riot seemed to intend. Her new Permafrost is a grossly powerful trading tool in the top lane, while the changes to her W made it terrible for killing jungle minions but wonderful for smacking

Basically, top lane Swain is no more. I'm just glad they didn't release Dragonmaster Swain before they made an item that ensures that Swain will always lose to people that really want to beat him. Interestingly, this item probably also will effect mid lane Swain, as the
Also, a word of silence for my ARAM win rate, which was largely boosted to the heights it's at thanks to my uncanny ability to role Swain on a regular basis. Now he's just yet another champion that I may consider rerolling.
This is more speculative on my part, as I have yet to see how the new coin operates in the wild, but there's no doubting that the new Ancient Coin line is very, very powerful on paper. Getting an extra skill point is no joke, as it can be the difference between entering a crucial mid-late game
Don't be surprised if you see teams do their best On The Hunt impression much more frequently in the near future, is what I'm saying.
