Earlier this morning, Pokemon Go surprised the world by announcing a major new expansion, the first since the game was released last July. Over 80 new Pokemon will be added to Pokemon Go later this week, all of which hail from the Johto region first explored in Pokemon Gold and Silver.
As part of the announcement, Pokemon Go released a new trailer showing a few of the many new Pokemon in the game. We've pulled out screenshots of all the Pokemon and placed them in a handy photo gallery which you can access above.
The new Pokemon include:
So will there be any Gen 2 Pokemon that won't appear in the new game? There were one hundred Pokemon originally introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver, eight of which (the Baby Pokemon and Togepi's evolved form Togetic) were all added in a previous update. We can assume that Pokemon Gold and Silver's six Legendary/Mythical Pokemon (Ho-oh, Lugia, Celebi, Suicine, Entei, and Raikou) won't be in the new update, which leaves 86 new Pokemon available.
It's likely that Pokemon Go will introduce all those Pokemon this weekend, although it's possible they could hold a few back for an event similar to Ditto's release around Thanksgiving. If Pokemon Go does hold back a Pokemon, it's probably Unown, which has over 25 variant forms related to different alphabet letters.
We'll provide more updates about the new Pokemon Go update as we get them. In the meantime, be sure to check out the photo gallery above for your first look at the new Pokemon.
