Pokemon Go should have three more "major updates" coming later this year. Niantic Labs CEO John Hanke promised more major additions to the popular mobile app game while delivering the keynote speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In his address, Hanke noted these "major updates" would be of the same magnitude of last month's Gen 2 update, which added 80 new Pokemon and a host of other features to the game.
While it's unclear what the major updates could be, popular guesses include Shiny Pokemon (which Niantic has been working on for some time), PvP battles, and a major update to gym battling.
Hanke also promised more new Pokemon, as well as group events. Hanke previously confirmed that Niantic held off on group events (which will likely include Legendary Pokemon) due to crowd size concerns.
It sounds like Pokemon Go should have a very busy 2017. WWG will continue to report on new Pokemon Go developments as they happen.
